End of the Year Show

Singers were focused and prepared after a good rehearsal the previous day. Forgotten lyrics were remembered, attention was payed to the director and smiles appeared on faces of singers and parents as the show progressed. The nine songs presented featured some two-part singing (Don’t Ever Give Up and Show Me Some Respect), some jazz (The Big Band, Dancin’ On The Rooftop, Slick Back Jack) some rock ( Listen To The Beat, We’re All In This Together, Get Up) and a rap (Get’cha Head In The Game).
The students made me very proud as they sang with drive and spirit. They also looked great in their t-shirts. I really hope the third and fourth graders will be in chorus next year!

iPhone app review-Relative Pitch

This app will teach you tro recognize intervals. It’s a good tool for training the ear, has great instructions and is easy to use.

The lessons are progressive, starting with unison and whole step tones. After you complete a lesson and test on it successfully, you go on to another. Lessons also cover minor second, minor and major third, tritone, perfect fourth and fifth, minor and major sixth and octave intervals.
I like this app for teaching but the full version costs $7.99 so I probably won’t buy it.

Two new songs added

September 26, 2008 Leave a comment

We’re starting to work on “Put On Your Shoes” and “Dance With Your Hands”.  Both songs are fun to sing and have great accompaniment.  We’ll use these songs in our first performance (to be announced soon).
